A History of Communication and Information Technology.

This is a collection of events in the history of information technology and communication, from the earliest written communication, through the inventions of the printing press, telegram, telephone and computer to the internet and World Wide Web.

It has been put together partly as a study into how the internet and World Wide Web fit into the history of communication, and how advances in communication and information technology have shaped the way society has developed, particularly in terms of the way exchange of information has been restricted as technological advances have enabled information to be exchanged faster and more freely. It is built as a database, meaning that the information can be viewed in a number of ways- either chronologically, by category, or as a calendar of anniversaries.

Please choose a section and event from the list on the right that you would like to read about.

As this can obviously never be an exhaustive list, it is still a work in progress. If you have any suggestions of events which you think should be included, or different ways which the information could be sorted and displayed, or just to say that you have found this interesting or useful in some way, please email history@lucky23.co.uk
