First mobile phone call

Dr. Martin Cooper called Joe Engel, chief of research at Bell Laboratories on a prototype Motorola microTAC 8000x handset- the first handset to receive FCC approval.

The handset was 10 inches high, weighing 28 ounces (not including the felxible antenna), and had a battery which would allow 60 minutes of talk time, after which it would need to be charged for 10 hours.
